Writers’ Toolkit

New for 2026, ‘Writers’ Toolkit’ invites writers of any discipline to get together - to discuss practice, solve problems, and collaborate as a critically supportive community.

This is a writers’ group with a twist - framed around a podcast recording / informal networking, each session we’ll focus on tackling issues you’ve encountered within your own writing craft.

Authors, poets, novelists, scriptwriters, screenwriters - bring your problems, your struggles, stumbling blocks, your challenges. Through conversations with other attendees, you’ll pick up tips and techniques to tackle the next steps in your own process - with quick-fire activities sprinkled in throughout to stimulate creative thought.

Together, we’ll build up a ‘toolkit’ of actionable advice, exercises, and solutions for writers based on your experiences. And hopefully, you’ll make some excellent new connections along the way.

We’ve intentionally tried to create something new that doesn’t compete with the other brilliant writers’ groups in the area, and offers a different format. We would thoroughly recommend trying out Holmeside Writers, who meet the first Wednesday of every month in the Ship Isis in Sunderland - Holmeside feature regular guest sessions led by artists of varying disciplines, or themed months based on interactive workshops. We also recommend Alphabetti Writing Group who meet every other Thursday at Alphabetti Theatre in Newcastle - this is a peer-led group with optional prompts and challenges.
