Elizabeth is currently researching her Sicilian-American ancestry through her paternal Nana Kath’s side, delving into the histories of how the anti-Sicilian rhetoric at US border control, in the early twentieth century, implored the family name change to Benedict.
She is simultaneously looking into the World Wars through the experiences of her maternal Nana Josie’s heritage, of having a hardworking background through-and-through that gives a warm, non-nonsense connotation to the phrase “Sent to Coventry!”
In her spare time, she enjoys everything from painting amateur watercolour art, reading widely, and has recently had the attention span to enjoy Stranger Things, as well as Peaky Blinders and Downton Abbey.
You can email ElizabethRBenedetto@outlook.com or follow her on Substack if you would like to work with her on any spoken word, fiction or poetry projects. She’d be so glad to hear from anybody interested in co-creating similar genres of work.”
About Elizabeth R. Benedetto
Elizabeth R. Benedetto is a writer who lives in the West Midlands, but she has taken her practice from Brighton to Berlin. She is “delighted to [have a profile on] ArtyParti, having followed its podcasts for some time”.
Elizabeth’s writing seeks to combine a (hopefully) engaging, classic style with an ethos of accessible, raw talk about mental health issues as seen in health and social care spaces in the UK today.
She has worked in mental health services, disability, homelessness, the housing sector, and education for the past six years, and has a particular interest in working on projects that work through depictions of sexuality.
Her current novel-in-progress is a work of sapphic fiction that also expresses regional voices, remarking on the UK connotations of class, and set in areas of disadvantage. She holds a BA in English and Creative Writing from DMU, and an MA from University of Sussex in Creative and Critical Writing.
